Why should I start calisthenics?

There are many different ways to exercise to get fit and healthy, so how do you chose the best option for you?

While generally people can benefit from doing a bit of everything sometimes you want to focus on one thing specifically and get really good at it.

Calisthenics is a great choice because you can do it for free and you can start practicing when you are a complete beginner.

Also as you get into intermediate and advanced movements you can show off to your friends anywhere!

The core of calisthenics is bodyweight exercise. Yes people do ‘weighted calisthenics’ as they get more advanced and to make specific bodyweight exercises harder but you don’t need to add weight at all.

Where should I start?

The best place to start to pick a goal. Pick one or two movements you would love to be able to do. For example, 10 full push ups.

From there you should find out the regressions of those exercises that you can do for reps and any flexibility and mobility you need to work on.

To start you will need to build up chest, tricep and ab strength to do the exercise so chose some exercises that will build up the necessary strength.

The great thing about calisthencis is that you don’t need a gym membership to get started, all you need is a space big enough to lie on the floor (and a wall if you’re practicing handstands).

This type of training can take a little while to see progress but once you start you won’t want to stop!
